Privacy policy
Effective November 4, 2026
Drift is an adaptive training app for runners, operated by Blessinger LLC ("we," "us"). This policy explains what information Drift collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the Drift mobile app, this website, and any connected services, including Garmin.
The short version: we use your data only to build and adjust your training. We do not sell it, and we do not use it for advertising.
Information we collect
| Category | Examples | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Account details | Name, email address, password (stored hashed), birth year, units preference, time zone | You, when you sign up |
| Athlete profile | Body weight, resting and maximum heart rate, lactate threshold (heart rate, pace, power), critical power, race goals and dates | You, or calculated from your training data |
| Activity data | Completed runs: time, distance, pace, GPS route, elevation, heart rate, running power, cadence, ground contact time, leg spring stiffness, lap and workout-step data, and the original FIT files | Garmin, and Stryd through your Garmin device |
| Health data | Resting heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV) and sleep | Garmin, if you grant access |
| Location | The start location of your runs, or a home location you set | Activity data or you |
| App usage and device data | Device model, operating system, app version, crash reports, and which features you use | The app, automatically |
| Messages to us | Anything you send in support requests or feedback | You |
We only collect health data and location to deliver features you use. If you don't connect Garmin or grant a permission, the features that depend on it won't work, but you can still use the rest of Drift.
This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies.
How we use your information
- Build your training plan. We use your goals, thresholds and history to set weekly mileage and workout targets.
- Adapt it as you train. We compare completed runs with what was planned. We use heart-rate drift, HRV, sleep and missed sessions to ease your load or schedule a recovery week.
- Adjust for weather. We use the home location you set, not your GPS routes, to get forecasts and scale targets for heat, humidity and dew point.
- Send workouts to your watch. We publish your scheduled workouts to Garmin Connect so they sync to your device.
- Run and improve Drift. We use app usage and crash data to fix problems and improve features, and we use your email to send account and service messages.
- Keep Drift safe and lawful. We use information as needed to prevent fraud and abuse, enforce our terms, and meet legal obligations.
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not build marketing profiles. We never use your data, including anything that comes from Garmin, to train or improve AI models, whether ours or anyone else's.
Your Garmin connection
Drift connects to Garmin only after you sign in to Garmin and approve access on Garmin's own authorization screen. We never see or store your Garmin password.
Once connected:
- Drift receives the activity and health data you approved, as listed above.
- Drift sends your structured workouts and training plan to your Garmin Connect calendar.
You can disconnect at any time, in Drift's settings or in Garmin Connect's account settings. After you disconnect, we stop receiving new Garmin data and stop sending workouts. Data we already received stays in your Drift account until you delete it, as described below.
How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising. We share it only in these cases:
- Service providers that run parts of Drift for us, under contracts that limit them to processing data on our behalf. These are the only third parties that receive data from your Garmin account:
- Cloudflare hosts this website. Before Drift opens to users, we will name here the provider that hosts the app's servers and database. We will update this list before any new provider receives your data.
- Anthropic provides the AI model behind Drift's optional AI insights, described below. It receives your training data only if you turn those insights on. Anthropic processes this data on our behalf and does not use it to train its models.
- Weather providers receive only the approximate home location you set, never data from your Garmin account.
- Garmin, to deliver your workouts to your Garmin Connect calendar, when you have connected your account.
- Legal and safety reasons, when required by law or legal process, or when needed to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, the public or Drift.
- A business transfer, if Drift is merged, acquired or sold. Your information would remain subject to this policy, and we would notify you before it became subject to a different one.
- With your consent, in any other case you approve.
AI transparency
Drift's training engine, which decides when to build, hold or ease your training and how to adjust for weather, uses fixed rules and calculations. It is not an AI model.
Drift also offers optional AI insights: written summaries of your training and answers to your questions about it. They are off until you turn them on. When you do, Drift asks for your explicit consent and explains what will be shared.
- What is shared: the parts of your training data needed to answer, which can include data from your Garmin account, such as runs, heart rate, power and sleep.
- Who processes it: Anthropic's Claude models, through Anthropic's API.
- How it is used: only to produce your insights. Neither Drift nor Anthropic uses it to train or improve AI models.
- How to withdraw: turn AI insights off in Drift's settings at any time. Drift stops sending your data immediately, and the rest of the app keeps working.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open, because your training history is what Drift adapts from.
If you delete your account, we delete your personal information from our active systems within 30 days. Copies in encrypted backups are removed within 90 days. We may keep a limited record longer where the law requires it, such as for billing or tax purposes.
How we protect it
We encrypt data in transit (TLS) and at rest. Garmin authorization tokens are stored separately, with an additional layer of encryption. Access to production data is limited to the people who need it to run Drift.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by law.
Your choices and rights
You can always:
- See and correct your profile and training data in the app.
- Export your data: ask us and we will send you a copy in a common format.
- Withdraw consent at any time: disconnect Garmin, turn off AI insights, or turn off device permissions such as location.
- Delete your account and its data, in the app or by emailing us.
Depending on where you live, including California and other US states with privacy laws, you may have further rights. These include the right to know what personal information we hold, to have it deleted or corrected, and to limit how we use sensitive information. We honor these requests for every user regardless of location. We will not treat you differently for exercising them.
To make a request, email us at the address below. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we will respond within 45 days.
Health and fitness data
Heart rate, HRV, sleep and similar data can reveal sensitive details about your health. We treat it as sensitive. We use it only to deliver your training and only with your permission. We never use it for advertising or share it with insurers or employers.
Drift is a training tool, not a medical device. It does not diagnose or treat any condition. Talk to a doctor before starting or changing an exercise program, and stop if you feel pain, dizziness or chest discomfort.
Children
Drift is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If we learn we have, we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Drift grows. We will post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change is significant, we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
